Hello!!! Now that PIXU is down i'd like to create a personal photography site (with personal domain). I don't want a free one, I'd like to have a quality site with a personal domain (good also in SEO) that must be elegant and very customizable in pages/homepage/gallery. The site must be also simple to built up. So I say no to Wordpress.org (terrible personal experience). I've read about smugMug , zenpholio and photofolio.

Which do you prefer/use? Which is the best for my intention? (I'm not very interesting in selling my photo trough this site)

Apart from having built an own site using commercial software in 2012, I have no specific experience. Since I am on 1x my own site is inactive. However, I would like to know why you say no to wordpress. I consider going there.

Hello Thomas. I say no to word press beacause I've tried to make a personal photography blog with it but it is too difficult creating a good and beautiful site if you haven't experience.

I'm using Wordpress, but I buy a template for $45.00 .. A lot of the people advise me to do Wordpress because, every word in it can be crawl by the search engine.,, I try zenfolio and smugmug . You can both customized it, but still have limitation. Between the 2 (zen & smug) ,, I prefer zefolio

I've been quite happy with SmugMug ( http://www.tomoscott.com ).

Truthfully, I think Smugmug, Zenfolio, and Squarespace all offer comprable features.

 

One think I've been happy about with SM is that they've built apps for Android, iPhone, and Kindle, which makes it a lot easier to show someone your portfolio when you're on the road. Again,though, I wouldn't be surprised if the other major players have apps as well.

 

Customizability is a two-edged sword, especially if you want a design responsive to all types of devices. That's why, for example, SmugMug doesn't allow you to add javascript to your pages.
